As A Local Business Owner, Are You Missing This Boat?

If you are a business person looking to market your products and service locally, then you are missing the boat if you are not registered with Google Places. As a business, you have the opportunity to create a Google Places profile and get yourself and your business on the map. As part of your Social Media strategy, this should not be overlooked.

Have you ever done a Google search for a business in your hometown. On that first page you would have noticed a map, usually on the right side of the page and on that map is contained a number of red “teardrop” shapes with letters in the circle part of it. The letters correspond to a business that has a profile in Google Places. Click on the “places” link and you are taken to that business’ profile which will provide you with a variety of information related to their business, products and services. The business owner will post the standard information such as address, phone number, website, hours of operation and can even post photos and videos. Keywords will still play an important role in what order you appear in the map’s listing. But it is only one factor. Google doesn’t reveal other factors that affect your place on the list.

Most business owners who have websites would love to have their website show up on the first page of a Google search for their type of business. Registering with Google Places can get you on that first page, even if you don’t have a website.

This is just another tool in you company’s social media tool kit. Take advantage of it. I have.
